Diaspore gemstones are remarkable for their color-changing habit. In daylight or fluorescent lighting, its color is a light yellowish-green to light olive green. In incandescent or candlelight its color changes to light pinkish-orange or raspberry-red color. Diaspore can also show both color combinations in mixed lighting conditions.
Zultanite is the trade name of diaspore that exhibits a color-change effect; the material appears yellow, pink, or green in different light sources. Mined Zultanite is the color changing variety of the mineral diaspore, an aluminum hydroxide discovered in the Ilbir Mountains of MuÄŸla in southwestern Turkey. Zultanite contains traces of iron, chromium, titanium and manganese.Â
Diaspore displays a subtle color change from a kiwi-like green in daylight to a champagne color in incandescent light, and a light purplish-pink under low intensity lighting such as candlelight.Â
Lab grown stones have the same Refractive Index, Gravity, hardness and heat transfer as their natural version. A lab grown diaspore is, in fact, an actual diaspore. They are made of the same chemical composition. The only way to tell if it is man-made is to have a gemologist look at it.
